The Microtech 1181-10AP is the Scarab II Generation III, specifically the Executive Series with a Double Edge/Single Edge (D/E-S) blade and an Apocalyptic finish. The Scarab II is Microtech’s heaviest-duty OTF, and the Gen III introduced massive mechanical upgrades that make it the current gold standard for hard-use automatics.

The Executive 1181-10AP is essentially the "refined beast." It has the massive footprint and "thud" of the original Scarab, but the new Dual-Fuel system makes it feel more like a precision instrument than a stiff tactical tool.

The "AP" in the model number denotes the Apocalyptic finish—a blasted and tumbled look that hides wear and scratches better than a standard satin or stonewash finish.

Gen III Breakthrough Features

The "Generation III" update isn't just cosmetic; it completely overhauled the internal drive system.

• Dual-Fuel Drive Train: This is the most significant change. By using two springs instead of one, the deployment is incredibly smooth and easy to fire, yet it hits with enough force to reliably deploy underwater.
• The "Crud Kutter": Milled channels under the thumb slide act as a debris-management system. It grinds up pocket lint and dirt, pushing it out of the track to prevent the "misfires" common in older OTFs.
• Rear Porting: The handle features holes at the base designed to allow water and debris to escape the chassis quickly.
• D/E-S Blade Profile: This unique hybrid blade features a full double-edge point for piercing, but one side of the blade remains unsharpened near the handle. This allows you to put your thumb on the spine for extra leverage during heavy cutting tasks.
• Torx Hardware: Like the new Ultratechs, the Scarab II Gen III moved to standard Torx screws, making it much easier for you to maintain or swap the pocket clip position.
