Enforcer is King
Warning - this is a lengthy review. If you want the short version, I highly recommend purchasing this knife if you’re considering it. It’s one of the best OTFs that I’ve ever felt at any price point. After recently receiving my first Cobratec OTF Lightweight, I was impressed enough to move up to one of their premium models. I chose their flagship Enforcer model in a grey finish. Let me start by saying, that this knife, while not inexpensive, is an excellent value. I have only had the knife for a very short time, but the quality was immediately obvious. The fit and finish is superb. Rather than go through every tiny detail, I’ll just sum it up that the machining on the body, and the blade architecture and edge finish are nearly perfect. This knife could easily have double the MSRP if it were made by a more renowned company. The milling and aesthetic attention to detail is just beautiful, and it rivals some custom knives that I’ve had. The only negative I can find on the finishing is that the grind lines on the blade could be a bit more refined, but they are almost perfect as is. I’m being very nitpicky here, and most people would probably never even notice what I’m talking about. The action seems nearly perfect as well. Blade deployment and closing is fast, strong, and smooth. This is what I expected, based on my previous experience with the Ligjtweoght model, and if anything, the Enforcer is slightly better. The ergos are excellent for an OTF. I like side button releases, but I’m aware that this is an issue for some people. On this button, there is very cleverly done jimping, that ergonomically ramps up on either side to the middle point. It feels pretty amazing, and I’d like to see the kid of jimping used on mute knives. The material used for the housing is just satiny smooth, rounded and chamfered where it should be, and it is a joy to handle. It is surprisingly lightweight, and fits my hand (glove size large) very well. The pocket clip is very strong and secure…no way it’s coming off. It is still easy to use, and deep carry, which is appreciated. One foreseeable issue here is that there is a triangular pommel with a lanyard hole on the bottom of the knife. It would be difficult to do so, but there is potential for jabbing your hand on the tip of the triangle when pulling the knife out of pocket. I have tried to force this issue, and I have to try to poke myself to make it happen. It appears that one could remove the pommel (it’s looks to be a separate piece)pretty easily by opening the knife, but I see no reason to do so. The blade on my example is a drop point design, coming in at just under 3.5 inches, with roughly 3.25 inches of usable blade. There is a small sharpening choil that looks to be useful or is not a finger choil. The blade stock is medium-thin, and it tapers nicely to an very nice point. This is a super slicey blade that has very sleek and stylish lines…I’d advise to look at online pictures here, as it’s hard to accurately describe blade geometry and aesthetics. The steel is M390, which speaks for itself. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but it the factory edge came very sharp…enough to just shave arm hair. It could of course be sharper, but that is a personal preference, and I think they balanced it out well for the average user. The edge bevel is perfect. Overall the blade is really, really nice, and I’m looking forward to testing it out. As this is a drop point, it should be useful for daily tasks. I’m not sure how the heat treat is, but I see nothing with the naked eye to indicate irregularities. Time will tell how it performs, as well as how how easy or difficult it is to sharpen. So, if you’re on the fence about Cobratecs, my advice would be to do as I did, and try out one of their more budget friendly models first. The Lightweight model that I chose is a ridiculous bargain, and it gave me a good idea of what to expect in terms of action and overall feel. If you like the budget model, you’re going to be blown away by an Enforcer. If my example is indicative of the QC on these guys, Cobtratec hit it out of the park on this one. Again, this is a superb OTF, possibly the nicest I’ve ever owned, and I will be happily showing it off to my friends. As a final note, Heart of Texas Armory is a pleasure to work with, and I have been extremely happy with my purchases from them thus far. They will continue to receive my business for the foreseeable future.
