The Para Military 2 is one of the most popular, recognizable, and carried knives in the world. Now this iconic design is available in a lightweight format that trims the knife’s overall weight by more than 25 percent and adds enhanced grip security. The secrets to its remarkable design start with injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle scales. Lighter than G-10, they feature our signature Bi-Directional Texture™ pattern for a high-traction, non-slip grip. They also house a streamlined Compression Lock® mechanism that further reduces the knife’s weight while locking the blade securely open during use.

The business end of the knife showcases a full-flat-ground blade crafted from Carpenter® Technology’s CTS® BD1N, a nitrogen-enriched stainless steel that offers an excellent balance of edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. The blade also includes a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole™ for quick, ambidextrous one-handed opening and a textured index-finger choil (finger groove) and thumb ramp for precise control during precise cutting chores.

The standard version of the Para Military 2 Lightweight features a tumble-finished blade and brightly finished handle hardware and is available in both PlainEdge™ and fully serrated SpyderEdge™ formats. For tactical environments where light discipline is a concern—and for those who simply prefer the aesthetics of an all-black knife—it is also available with a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) blade coating and matching black-coated handle hardware. All versions of this remarkable knife include a deep-pocket wire clip that is reversible for low-profile left- or right-side tip-up carry and a generously sized lanyard hole for the easy attachment of fobs, lanyards, and safety lines.

The Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Lightweight (C81PBK2) is the long-awaited evolution of one of the most iconic folding knives in history. Released as part of Spyderco's "Reveal 20" in early 2026, it applies the weight-saving philosophy of the Para 3 Lightweight to its larger sibling.

By swapping the original's G-10 scales and full steel liners for Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon (FRN), Spyderco has managed to shave off about 25% of the weight while maintaining the same 3.4-inch blade profile.

Key Upgrades & Differences

  • The Weight: At 2.8 ounces, it enters "disappear in your pocket" territory. For a knife with nearly 3.5 inches of blade, this is exceptionally light, making it a top-tier choice for hikers or those who wear lighter fabrics (like scrubs or gym shorts).
  • The Steel: While the standard PM2 often uses S45VN, the initial Lightweight model uses CTS BD1N. This is a nitrogen-enriched stainless steel known for being very easy to sharpen to a razor edge and having high corrosion resistance, though it has slightly less edge retention than S45VN.
  • The Clip: It replaces the classic 3-hole spoon clip with Spyderco’s deep-carry wire clip. This is generally preferred for EDC (Everyday Carry) as it sits lower in the pocket and is less "scary" to non-knife people.
  • Ergonomics: It retains the legendary PM2 ergonomics, including the 50/50 finger choil and the oversized "Spydie Hole" for easy deployment even with gloves.
