- Perform a complete firearm safety check: drop the magazine, pull the charging handle rearward, and visually inspect the chamber to verify zero live rounds are present.
- Field strip the rifle by separating the upper and lower receivers. Remove the existing stock, buffer, spring, receiver end plate, and buffer tube.
- Thread the castle nut and end plate onto the DoubleStar 2-position buffer tube, ensuring the end plate alignment tooth faces the lower receiver.
- Install the carbine buffer retainer and spring into the lower receiver socket while threading the buffer tube in until it captures the shoulder of the retainer pin.
- Hold the rear takedown pin and detent spring in place, push the end plate forward against the lower receiver, and hand-tighten the castle nut.
- Torque the castle nut to 38–40 ft-lbs using a dedicated armorer's wrench and stake the end plate into the castle nut notch for duty-grade security.
- Insert the carbine spring and buffer, slide the aluminum CAR stock body onto the tube, and perform a full action check.
