Armorer Bench Notes & Real-World Staging Guidance:
Fitment Matrix: Fits standard AR-15 barrels threaded in 1/2x28 TPI chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO or .223 Remington. Fully compatible with the Fortis Control™ Blast Shield system. (Note: Ensure proper timing orientation using the included crush washer so top ports face directly upward at 12 o'clock).
- Perform a complete firearm safety check: drop the magazine, lock the bolt rearward, and visually/physically inspect the chamber to verify zero live rounds are present.
- Clean and degrease the 1/2x28 barrel muzzle threads, removing all carbon, old threadlocker, or metal burrs.
- Place the included crush washer onto the barrel threads with the cupped (concave) side facing toward the receiver.
- Thread the Fortis 556-MB-BLK muzzle brake onto the barrel until it makes contact with the crush washer by hand.
- Using a 3/4" open-end wrench or armorers wrench on the flat wrench surfaces, torque the brake clockwise 180° to 360° until the top compensation ports align perfectly dead-center at 12 o'clock position (recommended final torque: 15–20 ft-lbs).
- Verify bore alignment visually using a cleaning rod or bore rod to ensure 100% concentricity before live firing.
