Hornady ELD Match 22 Cal 224 Rifle Reloading Bullets Polymer Tip Boat Tail 80 Grain 100 Count SKU 22831 UPC 090255228311

Product Description

Hornady® ELD® Match (Extremely Low Drag Match) .22 Caliber (.224" Diameter) 80 Grain Reloading Bullets (SKU: 22831 / UPC: 090255228311) deliver match-grade precision and ultra-flat trajectories for precision rifle handloaders, long-range competitors, and High Power service rifle shooters. Designed from the ground up to eliminate ballistic coefficient degradation at extended distances, this 100-count box of component projectiles provides handloaders with the exact dimensional and weight consistency required to print sub-MOA groupings at 600 to 1,000 yards across platforms including .223 Remington, 5.56 NATO match chambers, .224 Valkyrie, and .22 Creedmoor.

The core ballistic advantage of the ELD Match series lies in its patented Heat Shield® polymer tip. Conventional polymer tips soften and deform from frictional aerodynamic heating during high-velocity flight, causing meplat distortion and erratic downrange dispersion. The Heat Shield tip is entirely immune to aerodynamic thermal degradation, maintaining its pristine meplat geometry across the entire flight envelope. Paired with a streamlined secant ogive, optimum boat-tail angle, and an ultra-concentric AMP® (Advanced Manufacturing Process) jacket featuring virtually zero wall thickness variation, this 80gr projectile achieves a Doppler radar-verified G1 ballistic coefficient of .485 and G7 BC of .244.

Every Hornady ELD Match projectile is pressed with a precision-swaged lead core to guarantee maximum uniform mass distribution along the longitudinal axis, preventing rotational instability at muzzle velocities exceeding 2,800 to 3,100 fps. Because these are raw reloading component bullets, handloaders maintain full control over powder selection, neck tension, seating depth, and primer ignition. Whether loading single-feed cartridges for across-the-course target competition or configuring custom bolt-action precision rifles, the 80gr ELD-M sets the gold standard for high-BC .224 projectiles.

*Master Ballistician Bench Notes & Range Staging Guidance:*

Chamber Compatibility & Pressure Advisory: Engineered exclusively for .224" bore diameters. Requires a minimum 1:8" barrel twist rate (1:7" or 1:7.5" optimal) for gyroscopic stabilization; will NOT stabilize in traditional 1:12" or 1:9" twist .223 barrels. CRITICAL: Due to the 1.160" projectile length, standard magazine-length loading (2.260" COAL) in AR-15 platforms is not recommended as it intrudes deeply into propellant volume. For AR-15 platforms, this projectile is intended for single-loading (sled) or specialized extended-COAL magazines. Always consult modern load data manuals (Hornady 11th Edition) and work powder charges up from minimum starting weights.

  1. Verify the firearm chamber stamping and barrel markings match the exact SAAMI or NATO cartridge designation printed on your reloading dies and brass cases prior to loading.
  2. Inspect individual cartridges during magazine staging for seated primer uniformity, case wall integrity, and consistent overall cartridge length (COAL) free of bullet setback.
  3. Measure Cartridge Overall Length (COAL) to the ogive using a dedicated bullet comparator rather than measuring solely to the meplat tip, ensuring repeatable distance to rifling lands.
  4. Verify chronograph velocity consistency and point-of-impact (POI) at 100, 300, and 600 yards to true your ballistic calculator against Doppler radar G7 BC (.244) data.
  5. Store remaining ammunition in a cool, dry, climate-controlled environment (ideally inside a sealed M2A1/M19A1 ammo can with desiccant packs) and observe strict Ground/ORM-D hazardous materials shipping and handling regulations.

Key Features

  • Heat Shield® Polymer Tip Architecture: Immune to aerodynamic frictional heating, preserving meplat geometry and eliminating high-velocity ballistic coefficient degradation.
  • Radar-Verified High BC (G1 .485 / G7 .244): Optimum secant ogive and boat-tail base design yield superior wind drift resistance and ultra-flat downrange trajectories.
  • Concentric AMP® Bullet Jackets: Advanced Manufacturing Process eliminates jacket wall thickness variation for near-zero rotational runout and match-winning accuracy.
  • 100-Count Precision Component Box: Packaged in a durable 100-count box for handloaders requiring identical production lot numbers for match load development.
