- Ensure the host firearm is completely clear, magazine removed, bolt locked back, chamber visually and physically confirmed empty, and all live ammunition removed from the armorer bench.
- Depress the existing buffer retainer pin, remove the factory buffer and recoil spring, and (optionally) unscrew the receiver extension to remove the traditional buffer retainer pin and spring entirely for easier SCS maintenance.
- Select your required operating spring rate from the 5-pack (factory standard is 85% Black); if swapping springs, clamp the guide rod flats or insert a punch into the guide rod cross-hole, remove the T25 Torx screw, swap springs, apply Loctite® 243, and torque the screw securely.
- For carbine-length receiver extensions, slide the SCS assembly directly into the buffer tube with the bumper facing rearward toward the stock; for rifle-length A1/A2 tubes, slide the included JP spacer sleeve into the buffer tube first, followed by the SCS unit.
- Close the upper and lower receivers, cycle the charging handle manually to confirm full stroke travel and positive bolt catch engagement on an empty magazine, execute a dry-fire function check, and stage for gas-system tuning at the range.
