The Magpul STR (Storage/Type Restricted) Carbine Stock (MAG470) is a drop-in replacement buttstock designed for AR-15 / M4 carbines equipped with Mil-Spec receiver extension tubes. Engineered as an enhanced, storage-capable evolution of the iconic Magpul CTR® stock, the STR combines an expanded cheek weld profile with two water-resistant battery storage tubes on a compact, reinforced polymer A-frame chassis.

Built with a shielded release latch and Magpul’s supplemental friction locking system, the STR eliminates accuracy-robbing stock wobble while preventing accidental latch engagement during tactical movement or brush navigation. Each water-resistant side storage compartment is sealed with a hand-removable rubber plug, accommodating up to two CR123A or AA batteries per side for weapon lights, night vision optics, and red dot sights.

The STR stock incorporates two integral 1.25" sling loops, a reversible push-button QD sling swivel mounting socket, and a replaceable 0.30" thick rubber butt-pad that ensures positive shoulder placement over body armor or chest rigs. Available in multiple factory colorways—Black, Flat Dark Earth (FDE), OD Green, and Stealth Gray—the Magpul STR provides an ideal balance of ergonomic comfort, storage utility, and rock-solid receiver stability.

Fitment Matrix: Direct fit for standard Mil-Spec carbine receiver extension (buffer) tubes. Note: Designed specifically for Mil-Spec buffer tubes (~1.148" outer diameter); NOT compatible with larger Commercial-Spec buffer tubes.

Verify the rifle is completely clear, safe, and unloaded before installation.

Pull the stock position release lever down while simultaneously lifting the cross-pin lock using an armorer tool or hex key to slide the STR stock onto the buffer tube.

Disengage the friction lock lever before adjusting stock length across 6-position buffer tube detents, then lock down the friction lever to eliminate movement.
