Perform a complete firearm safety check: drop the magazine, lock the slide rearward, and visually/physically inspect the chamber to verify zero live rounds are present.

Field strip the existing slide assembly from the frame by locking the slide rearward, rotating the takedown lever downward, and releasing the slide forward.
