The HUXWRX Safety Co. Flash Hider-QD 556 XL (2885) in 1/2"-28 thread pitch is an extended-length quick-detach (QD) muzzle device engineered for .223 Rem / 5.56mm NATO rifles. Designed with an overall extended length of 2.96 inches, this XL variant is purpose-built for armorers pinning and welding to 13.7-inch barrels to achieve a non-NFA 16-inch overall rifle barrel length requirement.
Precision CNC-machined from heat-treated steel, the Flash Hider-QD XL features HUXWRX’s patented torque-increasing left-hand thread system. Utilizing external coarse acme threads and a self-tightening taper seal, combustion gases actively torque the mounted suppressor down tighter onto the muzzle device during firing strings, effectively eliminating silencer back-off and carbon locking without requiring manual secondary latches.
Finished in a protective black nitride coating, the 2885 flash hider features three helical prongs that aggressively disrupt gas expansion to eliminate muzzle flash signature when shooting unsuppressed. Compatible across the entire lineup of HUXWRX/OSS HX-QD series suppressors (HX-QD 556, 556k, 762, 762 Ti, and Magnum Ti), this extended muzzle device delivers seamless Flow-Through® performance and maximum structural durability.
*Armorer Bench Notes & Real-World Staging Guidance:*
Fitment Matrix: Threaded 1/2"-28 UNEF for .223 Rem / 5.56mm NATO barrels. 2.96" XL length brings 13.7" barrels to over 16.0" when pinned and welded. Compatible with HUXWRX HX-QD 556, 556k, 762, 762 Ti, and Magnum Ti silencers. (Note: HUXWRX QD mounting systems utilize left-hand threads—turn counter-clockwise to tighten suppressor onto muzzle device).
- Ensure the host rifle is completely clear, magazine removed, and chamber visually and physically verified empty.
- Clean and degrease barrel muzzle threads thoroughly; use provided timing shims to achieve proper indexing if pinning/welding alignment is desired.
- Apply high-temperature threadlocker (Rocksett recommended) to 1/2"-28 barrel threads and thread device onto barrel shoulder.
- Torque device to 25–30 ft-lbs using armorers wrench on wrench flats. (If performing a pin and weld, utilize the pre-drilled pin hole located near the wrench flats). Allow 24 hours for Rocksett cure before firing.
