ROAM Rifles R 15 Magnesium Upper Receiver Forward Assist FDE R15 UR FA FDE
Product Description
The ROAM Rifles® R-15 Magnesium Upper Receiver with Forward Assist in Flat Dark Earth (SKU: R15-UR-FA-FDE) represents a monumental leap forward in ultralight AR-15 architecture. Designed and manufactured in North Dakota for weight-conscious backcountry hunters, 3-Gun competitors, and tactical operators who refuse to compromise structural integrity, this assembled upper delivers full-featured AR-15 functionality at a fraction of standard forged aluminum mass. By retaining a functional forward assist, a Mil-Spec dust cover, and a modular shell deflector, the R-15 upper provides duty-ready operational reliability while shedding critical ounces from the top half of your rifle system.
Engineered from ROAM's proprietary aerospace-grade magnesium alloy, this receiver exhibits superior mechanical strength properties compared to conventional 6061-T6 aluminum while being approximately 33% lighter than forged 7075-T6 alloy. To counter the traditional corrosion vulnerabilities of raw magnesium, every receiver undergoes an advanced TAGNITE® anodic conversion process—the identical wear-resistant coating deployed on AH-64 Apache helicopters and F-22 Raptor airframe structures. The substrate is then permanently sealed with a thermal-cured Flat Dark Earth Cerakote® finish, providing exceptional defense against aggressive bore solvents, acid sweat, moisture, and abrasive field wear.
Every structural facet of the R-15 upper is engineered to harmonize with standard Mil-Spec components, including standard 1-1/4" x 18 UNEF barrel nuts, M4 profile charging handles, standard bolt carrier groups, and Mil-Spec lower receiver takedown pin geometry. The exterior includes a removable, impact-modified glass-filled polymer brass deflector that reduces overall component weight while mitigating finish chipping from high-velocity spent brass casings. Whether you are constructing a sub-four-pound mountain hunting carbine or an ultra-agile defensive firearm, the ROAM R-15 magnesium upper provides elite American metallurgy and class-leading strength-to-weight optimization.
*Armorer Bench Notes & Real-World Staging Guidance:*
Fitment Matrix: Direct fit on all standard Mil-Spec AR-15 and M4 lower receivers across calibers from .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO to .300 BLK, 6.5 Grendel, and .450 Bushmaster. CRITICAL: NOT compatible with large-frame AR-10 / SR-25 / LR-308 receivers. MANDATORY ASSEMBLY REQUIREMENT: You MUST install the included ROAM Barrel Pin Clip over the barrel extension index pin prior to inserting the barrel into the receiver. This proprietary clip mates the barrel pin into ROAM's enlarged slot to prevent localized magnesium shear during torquing. Always apply Aeroshell 33MS grease to threads and torque barrel nuts strictly between 35 and 45 ft-lbs (DO NOT exceed 50 ft-lbs). Always utilize an internal spline reaction rod clamped in your bench vise—NEVER use external clamshell vise blocks.
- Ensure the host receiver and barrel extension are completely clean, deburred, visually inspected, and all live ammunition is cleared from the armorer staging area.
- Slide the included proprietary ROAM Barrel Pin Clip directly over the barrel extension indexing pin, confirming the clip is seated fully flush against the barrel extension shoulder.
- Apply a thin, even coat of Aeroshell 33MS / Mil-Spec molybdenum disulfide grease to the receiver's 1-1/4" x 18 UNEF barrel nut threads and the interior barrel extension bore.
- Slide the barrel extension and clip into the receiver until fully seated against the front face, mount the assembly onto an internal splined receiver reaction rod clamped in a bench vise, and hand-thread the barrel nut.
- Using a calibrated armorer torque wrench, execute 3 progressive torque cycles to mate the threads, final-torquing the barrel nut to 35-45 ft-lbs (max 50 ft-lbs); align gas tube passage, install handguard, test BCG cycling and charging handle clearance, and stage for live-fire validation.
