Engineered to optimize bolt carrier group lock-up, reduce felt recoil, and enhance cycling reliability in AR-15 carbines, this comprehensive kit pairs a rifle-length A5 buffer spring with a heavy 5.3oz A5H2 buffer assembly, a Vltor lockplate, and a Vltor castle nut.
The included A5H2 buffer weighs 5.3 oz and features internal free-floating weights with biasing springs to prevent bolt bounce during rapid fire. *Armorer Bench Notes & Real-World Staging Guidance:*
Fitment Matrix: Designed specifically for use with a compatible A5 length receiver extension tube (such as Vltor RE-A5 or BCM Intermediate Receiver Extensions). Will NOT function in standard carbine-length buffer tubes or standard rifle-length receiver extensions.
- Ensure the host rifle is completely clear, magazine removed, and chamber visually and physically verified empty.
- Thread the included Vltor castle nut and Vltor lockplate onto your A5 receiver extension tube before installing the tube into the lower receiver.
- Insert the A5 buffer spring into the A5 receiver extension tube, followed by the 5.3oz A5H2 buffer assembly until captured by the retainer pin.
- Torque the castle nut to armorer specs (38-40 ft-lbs), stake the lockplate in two places, and cycle the charging handle manually to verify smooth mechanical operation and positive bolt catch engagement.
